UNC Aquatics Pool Rules and Regulations

 

  • The following acts are prohibited:
    • Running on the pool deck
    • Conduct hazardous to oneself or others, such as wrestling, dunking, standing/sitting on shoulders, chicken fights, pushing or throwing others into the pool
    • Sitting or hanging on lane ropes
    • Playing on ladders
    • Gum chewing while swimming
    • Unnecessary conversation with the lifeguard or loitering near the lifeguard stand
    • Smoking in the pool area
    • Eating in the pool or at the pool wall
    • Diving from the deck into less than 7 feet of water
    • Swimming with open cuts or sores
    • Extended underwater swimming or breath holding contests
  • Infants are required to wear plastic pants or swim diapers in the pool.

 

  • Floatation devices are not permitted unless they are Coast Guard Approved Personal Floatation Devices.  Parents must remain in contact with children using approved floatation devices.

  • Bathing suits must be worn at all times.  No cut-offs, gym shorts, sports bras, etc.

  • Toys may be brought in during recreational swim in Kessing Pool (beach balls, diving rings, etc) but must be kept in the pool and under control.  It is the lifeguards’ discretion as to whether it is safe to use toys.  No toys are allowed in Bowman Gray during recreation swim.

  • Bikes are not allowed on the pool deck.

  • The lifeguard stands are for lifeguards only.

  • If there are more than two lap swimmers sharing a lap lane, then laps should be swum in a counterclockwise circle.

  • Pets are not allowed into the pool or surrounding pool area.

  • Band-Aids should be removed and thrown away before entering the pool.

  • No glass containers of any sort.

  • Aqua joggers must use lanes 3 through 8 (Bowman Gray Pool)
