Classes

Adult
and Children Programs
|
UNC Aquatics offers quality aquatic instruction for
both children and adults based on the American Red Cross Learn to Swim
Program. Classes are taught by experienced instructors and maintain a
low instructor to participant ratio. For additional information on any
of these classes, stop by the UNC Aquatics Office at 110 Bowman Gray
Pool or call 962-2268.
Only
UNC affiliated persons are eligible. All participants must have
current Gym and Pool Privileges (check Eligibility
for details on obtaining privileges)

Adult Programs
- Two options are available for adults seeking
swimming instruction
|
|
Child Programs (ages 5 - 15;
6mo-4yrs for Parent/Toddler classes)
- Two options are available for children seeking
swimming instruction
- Group classes
- Classes will resume in Summer 2008. No classes during
the academic year.

Level One → |
Water exploration, safety, and primary skills |
· No
skill prerequisites |
|
Level Two → |
Refinement of primary skills; introducing more
strokes and advanced skills |
· Able to put face/head under water
· Ability
to float unsupported for at least 5 seconds on front and back
· Swim
5 yards (any stroke)
|

Level Three → |
Stroke development and refinement
(Freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, diving, etc) |
· Level Two skills
· Ability
to swim 15 yards using front crawl using rhythmic breathing
· Ability to tread water for 30 secs
|

Parent/Toddler → |
To help develop swimming readiness by leading parents and their
children in water exploration activities with the objective of having
fun and becoming comfortable in , on and around the water. |
· No
skill prerequisites
· Child
must be at least 6 months old to enroll, and up to age 4
· Parent
or other caregiver must accompany each child into the water and
participate in each class |
